As a seasoned member of the Talley Vineyards team since 2007, Johnson’s extensive experience and deep understanding of the estate vineyards make him an ideal candidate for this role. His expertise as a winemaker has allowed him to collaborate closely with the vineyard team in making crucial decisions. Johnson individually ferments and ages each block, conducting blind tastings throughout the year to objectively evaluate the characteristics and development of each site. This meticulous approach enables him to make data-driven farming decisions.

Johnson’s new role also represents a return to his agricultural roots, having grown up amongst apricot and walnut groves on his family’s farm. With degrees in agricultural business management and viticulture and enology from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, Johnson has honed his skills both locally and abroad, including working at Whitehaven Winery in Marlborough, New Zealand.
